KID ROCK: No Truth To Drug Arrest Rumors
August 13, 2004Contrary to rumors, Kid Rock, a.k.a. Robert James Ritchie, 33, has not been arrested on drug charges in Pennington County, Meade County or any other South Dakota county, the Rapid City Journal reports.
"Nope," Meade County Sheriff Ron Merwin said when asked Thursday morning (August 12) if such an arrest had been made. Calls to Pennington County authorities and the South Dakota Attorney General's Office produced similar answers.
Kid Rock was indeed in the neighborhood of the Sturgis motorcycle rally Thursday. He was the headliner Thursday night at Buffalo Chip Campground concert venue east of Sturgis.
Buffalo Chip spokesman Mike Sanborn said Thursday that the band had arrived at the campground about 7 a.m. and the crew was busy setting up for the show.
Sanborn said he suspects that someone had been starting the rumors to sabotage the Buffalo Chip ticket sales. Rumors that headliners won't go onstage at the Buffalo Chip, he said, have almost become an annual occurrence.
"Somebody does this to us every year. It's one of those things we have to deal with," Sanborn said. "The road crew is here, they're setting up. There's no reason to believe Kid Rock is not going to play here tonight." Read more.
